Oct 2024: Supporting a Ministry Partner in Siem Reap

When Love-A-Village first started out in 2016, we were introduced to Teacher Yoo, a Korean missionary serving in Siem Reap. She founded Thansure School, a mission school in Siem Reap, and became one of our early partners. While most Korean missionaries chose to serve in Phnom Penh, Teacher Yoo had a calling to reach the children of Siem Reap. Her vision for the school was to raise a next generation of Christians who would share the love of Christ with others.

In April 2010, Teacher Yoo started Thansure school as a kindergarten for 30 children from low-income families. Since then, Thansure school has grown, and presently has 52 teachers and 250 students from kindergarten to Grade 12.”

The current school grounds consist of three 1-storey blocks with classrooms, a small hall and an office for teachers. At the current school strength, this compound is struggling to meet the needs of the staff and students.

Desiring to expand the school, Teacher Yoo started praying for a new school compound that would allow more children to enrol into the school in 2017. Besides providing more spacious classrooms, the school would have a library, a computer lab and a chapel for the whole school to gather and worship. For her, this new school is a temple where the Lord’s disciples will grow. She bought the land in 2019 for US$420,000.

In 2023, the construction work started. The foundations have been laid and work has started on the 2nd floor. It is expected to be completed at the end of 2025. The total cost of the project is US$1 million and each month, Teacher Yoo is expected to pay about US$50,000 for the project to continue. She has been thankful for the support so far and is seeking support for the coming months.

To learn more about the building of the school, you can watch this youtube video uploaded by Teacher Yoo for her Korean supporters:

As partners in Christ, Love-A-Village would like to gather  a one-time love gift towards the amount needed to build the school. We pray that you will come alongside us to contribute towards that gift and also to pray that Teacher Yoo will always have funds for each month’s payments. If you would like to join us in supporting the school, you may find details of how to transfer to us here. We would consolidate all contributions by 31 Oct 2024.

Update (3 Nov 2024): A total of 11,000 SGD and 2,000 USD was collected. On behalf of Teacher Yoo, we would like to express our thanks for your heartfelt support towards the betterment of the lives of the Cambodians through education and the sharing of the gospel. Do continue to keep the school in prayer as they prepare for the new school building.

Update (4 Jan 2025): Teacher Yoo has met the required amount for the 10th progress payment for the project. The construction of the school can continue. Thanks be to God!

August 2023 Updates – Thanksgivings from Sreisros

By Sreisros

I hope  you and your family are doing well. I’m grateful for your support in the Siem Reap ministry. With your prayers and giving, we can continue what we are doing in order to see people get saved by Jesus. I believe when we do our best, God will multiply  the results. His time is near, so we do what we can to be the light and salt to people around us. Also, I am thankful that God takes good care of my whole family and my children, and I would like to share my daughter’s letter to you.

Dear Love A Village,

Thank you for helping me by sponsoring a scholarship for my studies. I really appreciate it. I have been doing well in my English class , and got 2nd place in speaking and 1st place in writing exam. If it wasn’t for the  scholarship, I would never get better in English. I have been praying to get into a good English school. I also have been praying to get better in English. And now, my prayers have come true. So, I’m very thankful for God and for LAV for sponsoring me. I really do appreciate it.

Hanna

A Gift of Light

During our trip in March 2020, we blessed Pastor Villa who lives in Skun village, about 1 hour’s drive away from Siem Reap City. Although he has a solar panel on his roof, he had no electricity in his house as the battery that the solar panel was connected to was not working. So, we bought him a new battery, a solar charge controller, switches and plugs.

After a day…

Ta-dah! He has fixed everything up!

Now, his family doesn’t need to live in darkness, and they can have light in the night. 😊

The Love-A-Village supporter who donated the new battery commented that “a small gift makes a huge difference”! We never know the huge impact our small actions make. We hope this encourages you to continue to give – in time, in kind, in cash.

Our First Sponsored Student

A few of our Love-A-Village core team members first met Sithorn about 2 years ago. At that time, she was in Grade 10 and teaching basic English classes at PCEF. In the morning, Sithorn went to school, and after school, she made her way to PCEF to teach the young children English. Her work at PCEF was a part-time job she really needed to help pay her daily expenses. At one point in time when things at home were not going well, Sithorn even had to make PCEF her home.

Sithorn will be in Grade 12 this October. She needs to teach at PCEF to earn money, but she’s been finding it difficult to teach part-time at PCEF as she’s got extra classes in the afternoon to attend. Not attending these extra afternoon classes will result in Sithorn falling behind in her studies.

Love-A-Village will offer Sithorn a scholarship to enable her to concentrate fully on her studies in her final year of high school. In our interactions with Sithorn, we see a diligent and intelligent youngster who is very eager to learn.

Sithorn will be attending the weekly bible classes held by Om Chomrern at Om Han and Om E’s house. We pray that she will be able to learn about God and eventually believe in Jesus as her saviour.

Please pray alongside us for our very first scholarship student!
